MENA ICT Week 2011

Under the Auspices of Prime Minister H.E Muhammad Naji al-Otari, the Syrian Computer Society (SCS) and The Arab ICT Organization (IJMA3) are organizing the 3rd Annual MENA ICT Week from 25-29 March 2011. The event will be held in conjunction with the Cham Exhibition 2011 for Informatics and Communication in the Omayyad Palace for Conferences in Damascus.

Considered one of the most prominent ICT sector events in the Arab world,  SCS will host this year's event which encompasses all concerned parties working in the field of ICT. Here we should mention that the participants are key players in the field of ICT and coming from 14 different countries from the Arab world, Europe, United States and Africa. There will be 500 experts participating in this event from outside Syria among them 200 participants form America, Europe, Asia and Africa in addition to great participation from the decision makers working in ICT and economics sector in the Arab world.

The following points will be discussed during this week:
- Arab strategies that aiming at achieving sustainable development for ICT.
- Status quo of ICT in the Arab world and the obstacles of developing this sector.
- Future strategies for ICT sector development

The conference will also include number of activities such as:

Arab Golden Chip Awards (AGCA)
The Golden Chip will be awarded for outstanding people working in the field of ICT in Middle East and North Africa service companies. This award will spot light on the great achievements through recognizing leading figures driving ICT change and innovation around the region and in their countries. The winners will be selected by a jury that contains major characters working in ICT field in the Area.

IJMA3 Annual Meeting
IJMA3 is a non-profit, non-governmental institution located in Beirut, Lebanon. It comprises 15 member societies from throughout the Middle East and North Africa. IJMA3 has endorsed itself as the regional ICT platform through promoting for ICT development policies, facilitating investment in this sector and using ICT for facing challenges related to the regional development process. IJMA3 is a member in WITSA (World IT Services Alliance).

WITSA Meeting
WITSA is a consortium of over 70 national ICT industry associations with members representing more than 90 percent of the world ICT market. WITSA was founded in 1978 as the leading voice of the ICT industry all over the world and it has since increasingly participated in advocacy in international public policy that affects the "global information infrastructure". It voices the concerns of the international IT industry in organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the G8.

The hosting of WITSA meeting by SCS and IJMA3 in Syria is one of the most important events in the area and a proof for the attention given to ICT in the Arab area especially in Syria.

- Business Matching Workshop
: creating business linkages between companies across the MENA region.
- Cham Expo 2011:

The Cham Expo is one of the largest ICT exhibitions in the Arab world, and is the most important event for suppliers and consumers of ICT services and solutions in Syria. Held annually, it serves as a key resource for showcasing new innovations and  developments in the ICT sector.

Cham Expo 2011” will take place during MENA ICT Week from 25-29 March, while the Bazaar will be held from 25 March through 1 April 2011.
