The GSMA recently announced the findings of a report conducted by PwC for GSMA, “Touching Lives through Mobile Health; Assessment of the Global Market Opportunity” which looks at the key challenges the healthcare industry is facing and the opportunity mobile technology provides in these challenges. Some interesting findings from the report include:

• The mHealth market is predicted to be worth US$23 Billion by 2017
• The marketing opportunity for mobile operators in mHealth services could be worth approximately US $11.5 billion in revenue
• Europe would become the largest mHealth region by 2017 followed by Asia Pacific, North America, Latin America and Africa respectively
• Monitoring services will be the largest segment of the market (65%) followed by diagnosis services (15%), and treatments services (10%)
